What is the Alexander Technique
?
It helps my students to think of the technique as a set of principles that they can apply in their everyday activities and in specialised movement such as dance and sports.
The benefits of learning these principles are far reaching. Not only do people find they have more success in what they do, they achieve more with less effort.
In the book 'Freedom to Change', Frank Pierce Jones wrote: "For the Alexander Technique does not teach you something new to do. It teaches you how to bring more practical intelligence into what you are already doing; how to eliminate stereotyped responses; how to deal with habit and change.
For example, if you have a passion for gardening, the Alexander Technique could help you look at how you are going about the tasks of reaching, lifting, digging and so on. The aim would always be to achieve what you want to do with greater ease.
