The Alexander Technique Profession
The Alexander Technique is an international profession with teacher training schools all over the world. Different traditions have emerged and teachers will have varying approaches and focus in their classes.
In the United Kingdom, the Complimentary and Natural Health Care Council has opened a register. This will afford you some assurance as to the training and good standing of any practitioner. See
www.cnhc.org.uk for more information.
Recognised teachers will have trained specifically in the Alexander Technique over a period of years. To read about my training refer to the
Interactive Teaching Method (ITM) site.
The ITM course requires teachers to engage with the principles Alexander presents in his books, learn to deal with people in a personal capacity, understand human movement and acquire the unique skills in using their hands while teaching.
Whilst the use of the teacher's hands is not essential to every learning experience, there is something very specialised that can be accomplished with the teacher's touch. This is one of the reasons we recommend working with a qualified teacher.
