How we work

Classes can be on a one to one basis or on a group basis. The one to one arrangement offers privacy. Group classes offer wider opportunities to learn through observation and discussion.

There are variations in how different teachers work. The classes offered here use the Interactive Teaching Method.

Once the introductory ideas have been covered the teacher adapts the class agenda according to the interests of the students.

We work with activities that the students choose, for example: walking, making a speech, swinging a golf club, dancing, playing piano, bending over to pick something up.

The teacher watches the student, then through discussion and light touch techniques, the ideas are explored towards flexibility and ease.

Is it for you ?

The answer is very likely yes. Everyone needs to move. We need to move to get around our own homes. We need to move to travel near and far. Most working lives involve movement - even desk jobs. You do not have to have problems with your mobility. This work is performance enhancing.

If your hobbies or your business life require any specialist or repetitive movement, I strongly recommend that you learn the Alexander Technique.

In a typical class or workshop I will ask the students what they have been thinking about and what they would like to look at. The class time is unscripted and the principles come out according to the interests of those present. Each student has the opportunity to take a turn with a practical activity. We laugh together as we discover just how much we have in common - whatever we are trying to improve.
